The Most Underrated Companies To Keep An Eye On In The Best Self-Emptying Vacuum Industry

2024.05.02
Best self empty robot vacuum mop-Empting Robot Vacuums and Mops

The Eufy 11S robotic vacuum is among the most affordable self-emptying vacuums available on the market. It ably sucked up dry oats from hard floors and low-pile carpeting in our tests. Its dustbin is easy to open and empty -much easier than other models in its price range.

It charges at its base, and then begins cleaning as soon as it's ready. Its obstacle-avoidance technology is caught in cords and socks and it is unable to reach thresholds that are low.

1. iRobot 11S

The 11S is a less expensive self-emptying robotic vacuum cleaner that many people seem to love. It's good at scooting under furniture and is thought to be a good option for those with hard floors or those who want to perform light daily cleaning. Its suction is a bit weaker than our top picks, however it still does the job. It also has a large dirt bin and a battery which lasts for over an hour. The app allows you to schedule daily cleanings or pick a specific room. It's also possible to map out your home, floor which could aid in avoiding areas you don't want to go to.

The app is easy to use and has a clear layout. It doesn't have any advanced capabilities, but it's simple enough to use and makes it easy to keep track of the progress of your self-empty robot vacuum. It also comes with a helpful tutorial to provide you with the basics.

Its cleaning pattern doesn't always appear logical - sometimes it goes in straight lines, while other times it focuses on the edges of a room - but Bounce Navigation ensures your entire floor is kept clean. It's not the best at climbing over obstacles though. It was unable to climb over our piano pedals as well as pet food bowls, and was tangled up in our 2.25-inch shag rug multiple times.

While it's a great option for light cleaning We believe there are better robot vacuums than the 11S. The iRobot Roomba is simpler to maintain, has lower recurring costs and is charged faster. It has a bigger bin, performs better on any type of surface and is able to climb over low-lying obstacles (like electrical cables) more easily.

The eufy RoboVac 11S is a different option for regular vacuuming. It has a very similar design to our top pick and is great in removing fine dust and larger debris from hard floors. It also does a great job on low-pile and medium-pile carpet. It comes with a large dirt bin and uses BoostIQ for automatic suction power adjustment. It also comes with an adjustable remote that is easy to use and you can schedule daily cleanings using the app. The battery can last for about an hour and the dustbin can be easily empty by removing it from its dock.

2. Roborock S7 maxV Ultra

Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra robot mop and vacuum is an excellent robot with a surprising array of automated features. The Roborock S7 MaxV comes in three models: the basic S7 model as well as the S7 Plus model and the S7 Ultra. Only the latter comes with an Empty Wash Fill Dock (or an alternative Auto-Empty Dock). These docks let the robot return to its home base after a cleaning session and empty the debris into a dust bag or reservoir, floor empty its dirty water tank, and clean its mopping pad.

The S7's sensors work to stay clear of obstacles and clean the floors. It can detect floor types and save the map of rooms and zones and even detect dirt levels. It's also capable of scheduling and executing spot-cleaning sessions. It performed well in our tests, but it didn't exactly match the Roomba j7+ in the carpet deep clean test.

You can set a date, time either day or week, as well as select among a range of cleaning modes such as eco, automatic and deep clean. You can also choose whether the robot will stop if it runs out of power or comes across an obstacle.

If you don't own an iPhone, you can still use the S7 by connecting a remote to the charging dock. The controls on the remote are a little confusing, but once you get the hang of them they work well. The power button also acts as a 'Cleaning' button, and the Spot Clean button directs the robot to clean an area around it. The 'Spot Clean" button also activates the child lock.

In addition to the new mapping features, Roborock improved its mobile app, adding a live view feature that lets you check out what the S7 is doing at home. You can enable it by pressing a specific sequence of buttons on your S7 and then creating an unlock pattern within the mobile app, which you can use whenever you wish to see what the S7 is doing.

3. Shark IQ XL

Shark isn't as well-known for robot vacuums as iRobot and Roborock, but our tests on Shark has proven it to be one of the most efficient self-emptying robot vacuums on the market. It's simple to set up and comes with a large bin that can be easily emptied (albeit loudly) into a trashcan once it is full. It can also be programmed to sweep the entire home on a regular basis.

The IQ XL can connect to your home WiFi and lets you monitor it from the Shark app and see its battery status as it cleans. The app lets you set a cleaning schedule, receive push notifications about its current status as well as the ability to pause and resume cleaning, or set it to only one room. You can also control it using voice commands with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. The app will tell you what power mode it's currently in--Eco, Normal, or Max. However, we couldn't determine that any of these modes made a huge difference to the cleaning performance.

The IQ XL will automatically empty the trash bin at the end of a cleaning cycle into the base, which will then automatically empty itself. The bin can store up to 60 days of debris, meaning it won't be required to empty it more than once, unless your pets have hair that is long. If you do have to empty it, all you need to do is detach the side bin, put it up to a trash can and press a button to eject the contents.

It does a good job of cleaning bare floors and can maneuver itself well. However it's not the best choice for carpeted floors. Shark IQ XL feels a little less solidly built than the Roomba 694. It clears a lot of debris on bare floors and does a decent job of maneuvering itself however it's not as close to achieving the same performance as the iRobot Roomba i7 in terms of performance on carpeted floors. The i7 is also more robust and feels more durable. It is robust, has less demanding maintenance requirements, is able to charge lower recurring costs, is faster to charge, and offers comparable battery performance, and comes with much more advanced automation features like no-go zones and the capability to pick specific rooms to keep clean.

iRobot j7+

This robot mop/vac combo is a rare beast, as it does both jobs very well. iRobot's Combo j7+ has all the features of its j7 counterpart including self-emptying and LiDAR mapping, however, it also comes with additional features for mopping and vacuuming.

The new acoustic sensors assist the j7+ recognize floor types, so it can decide between vacuuming and mopping when it first enters the room. It also uses this info to prioritize cleaning rooms that have carpet or rug flooring over rooms with hard floors.

Like most robotic vacuums, the j7+ is relatively quiet when running and it's even less noisy when it's mopping. Its maximum reading on our decibel meter was 64db which is similar to the noise of general office chatter.

You can easily set up a cleaning schedule and change the way that dust is cleaned when the canister is full. The j7+ is also able to be controlled with voice assistants (Alexa, Google Assistant, etc.) The app lets you create and view maps from your home.

In our tests, we found that the j7+ performed well on carpeted and hard floors, cleaning most of the dirt we threw at it. It has a difficult time with pet hair, large pieces of debris and sand. However, it is able to clean them with more effort. It has excellent navigational skills and two cliff sensors that prevent it from falling down stairs or getting stuck on furniture legs.

The J7+ has some minor flaws. One of them is that it can be stuck on cords or rugs and it doesn't always turn off the mopping function when it's finished vacuuming. Otherwise, this is an excellent product that ticks all the right boxes.

The j7+ from iRobot also has one of the best self-emptying systems we've seen. It spits out its 14oz / 0.4-liter dust container into the base station, where it will automatically empty itself for you. This helps reduce the amount of trash you need to dispose of and you'll only need to replace the reusable dust disposal bag from the dock about every 60 days or so, based on how often you use the J7+.
